Coaching the first WordPress boardgame was very exciting for me. At first I was nervous because the players are WordPress user and programmer, it was their daily job after all messing up with WordPress. But later on I enjoy watching them play the game because they really get the story behind the game and play passionately.
The game was about web development where you and your teammates are trying to finish WordPress CMS project (CMIIW). Your job was to install plugins that collaborate with each other and suites with the boss demand. There are more than 50 plugins to use and some of them are special plugins that have (of course) special effect. There are victory points, threshold value and a brief explanation in each plugin.
Every player has its own workspace and must work with each other to complete the workframe. Each workframe has its own plugin connector that has a threshold value. A workspace is considered finished if every connector has been installed with plugins or the installed plugins have reached the threshold value.
But it wasnt as easy as it seems because there are one last significant factor, which is the boss’s order. The order was represented with three dice, red yellow and green. Basically the red dice tells us work harder, weather to share your plugin with other player or download more plugin. The yellow dice are order related with the plugin connector. Sometimes you must turn it 90 degrees or 180 degrees or you can reinstall a plugin of your choice. The green ones are order related with workframe. The boss can tell you to change the workframe or run the workframe even if it wasnt finished.
In the end if you have a WordPress web, you really should play the game. It’s fun and interactive with many twist that can affect the gameplay. And for you who don’t it is the best way to know WordPress as you can learn more than 60 plugins and 18 themes in this game and be a successful web developer!
